What is it like to study at yas?

At yas, our mission is to provide language learners with effective learning experiences in welcoming environment, helping learners become confident to say whatever they want. We understand each learner is unique, and that is why we have designed highly adaptive courses.

We focus on maximizing self-regulated learning.

Learners choose classes and level according to their own goals

Learners choose how they do learning activities in each class

Learners choose how many classes they would like to have per week

Here is our approach.

Goal-based Learning

When assessing learner progress, we take goals and effort into account instead of grades. Since each learner is unique, goals are individual and specific. They are set by learners during placement checks that happen throughout the course. Thus, each class is customized according to the learners' needs and preferences.

Positive Feedback

Progress depends on motivation. And a healthy learning environment depends on how much each learner's effort is seen and valued. We propose a positive feedback culture where we motivate and engage each of our learners in their individual learning goals.

Effective Communication

Good communication makes for good relationships, which are essential in the learning process. We seek to value each learner through how we communicate, making sure they have agency and space to take ownership of their own learning journeys. And we are their partners.

Focus on Context

Grammar topics are studied in context-based activities. This way, we foster retention and make sure learners learn English in a meaningful way.

Self-assessment and metacognition

Learners learn to self-assess in each learning activity, according to four main learning stages (from naivity to expertise). This makes each learner know where they are in their learning process. In other words, they learn how to learn.

Adaptiveness

To ensure our approach is applicable and effective, classes are designed according to each group's needs and preferences. Learners can attend classes that are aligned with their goals.
